"Mend it March" - Visible Mending - Basic Sashiko + Whipstitch Date - Tuesday 18th March - 7pm-9pm "In a world of disposability, repairing our clothes is a revolutionary act." - Orsola De Castro, Loved Clothes Last. Have you ever wanted to learn how to learn how to mend your clothes, and give your wardrobe a second lease of life? Join maker and designer Laura Sherriffs of Fernweh in this hands-on workshop, we'll be exploring the art of visible mending, which has become increasingly popular over. the last few years. You'll learn some popular creative ways to visibly mend your clothing, and add a bit of uniqueness and character to your clothing. With just a needle, thread, and a bit of creativity, you'll learn techniques like the art of the traditional Japanese "Sashiko" stitching technique. This technique We'll also cover using a Whipstitch to repair holes creatively with patches, and how we can combine repair techniques together. These practical techniques will empower you to extend the life of your clothing and create a more sustainable wardrobe. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their sewing skills! We'll be creating samplers for these techniques so that you can take these skills away to repair your own clothes. Due to the length of the workshop we won't be repairing actual garments at the workshop, but feel free to ask any questions relating to specific mending queries. All materials provided. Techiniques covered; Sashiko Whipstitch How to use these techniques together to create a unique but functional mend. About your Tutor Laura from Fernweh UK has been crafting waxed canvas bags and accessories under her slow fashion brand Fernweh since 2014. She has a BA Hons in Fashion Design and has 15 years experience in pattern cutting, garment construction and finishing, utilising industrial sewing machines and 10 years of bagmaking.
