Service Description

"Mend it March "- Basic Hand Sewing Mending Workshop Date - Tuesday 4th March, 7pm-9pm "In a world of disposability, repairing our clothes is a revolutionary act." - Orsola De Castro, Loved Clothes Last. Have you ever wanted to learn how to learn how to mend your clothes, and give your wardrobe a second lease of life? Join maker and designer Laura Sherriffs of Fernweh in this hands-on workshop, where you'll learn the essential hand sewing skills to tackle common repairs and keep your favourite garments looking great. Armed with a needle and thread, we'll cover the basics of ladder stitch, back stitch, how to sew a hem (with a neat blind stitch), and how to securely attach a button. These practical techniques will empower you to extend the life of your clothing and create a more sustainable wardrobe. Whether you're fixing a tear, a split seam, shortening a hem, or reattaching a button, you'll leave with the skills to mend with confidence and style. Perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their sewing skills! We'll be creating samplers for these techniques so that you can take these skills away to repair your own clothes. Due to the length of the workshop we won't be repairing actual garments at the workshop, but feel free to ask any questions relating to specific mending queries. All materials provided. About your Tutor Laura from Fernweh UK has been crafting waxed canvas bags and accessories under her slow fashion brand Fernweh since 2014. She has a BA Hons in Fashion Design and has 15 years experience in pattern cutting, garment construction and finishing, utilising industrial sewing machines and 10 years of bagmaking.
